Leash Law for Dog and Cats:
There has been a problem in the last several months with some pets running loose, (both dogs and cats). Yes there is a leash law that includes dogs and cats. In the past, Seminole Woods has not been to concerned about cats as they are not aggressive to people as a general rule. However, the dogs can easily be aggressive. Our gate attendants have gotten several calls from residents about dogs running after them. We must remember not all persons find dogs non-threatening. We need to remind all residents that there is a leash law in Seminole County and even the fact that we are a private community does not permit the community to pick and choose the codes and laws that it wishes to obey and not obey.
If a gate attendant gets a call from a resident complaining of another residents dog chasing them or being aggressive towards them in common area, the gate attendant has no choice but to call Animal Control. If Animal Control picks up the dog, it will cost the dog owners to get it back. Repeated offenses could escalate the cost. We do not have any say as to what Animal Control does once they have been called.
Please be aware that Seminole County, FL has a leash law that applies to all areas to the county. Failure to control your dog or cat can result in Animal Control picking up the animal.
Section 20.17 ANIMALS AT LARGE
